Welcome

Welcome to the Washington State Chapter APWA website, maintained by the Municipal Research and Services Center (MRSC). As Chapter President, I extend a warm welcome to our Chapter members and site visitors.

The Washington Chapter is one of 67 local chapters in the US and Canada which make up the American Public Works Association (APWA). Membership in APWA is open to public and private sector individuals, agencies, and companies interested and involved in the delivery of public works goods, projects and services.

Our Chapter's roots can be traced back to informal meetings in 1955. A year later, with a membership of about 70 people, we were granted American Public Works Association (APWA) chapter status. Our Chapter is now 1400 (+/-) members strong. Always looking to the future, as evidenced by our Strategic Plan, our Chapter is enthusiastic and dynamic with a remarkable tradition of excellence.

Our Chapter also is home to five national APWA past presidents: Roy Morse (1965), Myron Calkins (1971), Gib Schuster (1974), June Rosentreter Spence (1987) and Jerry Fay (2000) and 27 APWA Top 10 Public Works Leaders of the Year.

Pete Capell, PE
2012-13 Chapter President
